Buy and Sell Machinery Direct!

FAQ's - Buyers

Do I need an account to browse for machines?
No. You may browse XS-Machinery.com listings at any time. When you decide to request any information about a machine from the Seller, you will need to open a free account with XS-Machinery.
How does "buying direct" differ from a Broker/Dealer or through an auction?
Buying direct allows buyers to directly communicate with the Seller, bypassing any communications with a middleman (dealer, broker, agent, third party, etc.). The Buyer can "quiz & grill" the Seller with specific questions as to usage, condition, reason for sale, etc. and will pay for the equipment only - no commission, markup, or fees. By the nature of such direct transaction, the Buyer and Seller should have a financial benefit, making it a better deal for both.

In an auction, legally binding bids are made by one or more buyers during the auction, and the highest bidder "wins" the action if auction conditions such as reserves or minimum sales price are met.

It is a time-regulated and monitored process. The winning bidder has to make immediate payment and arrange for shipping or pickup within days. All equipment sold through auctions are purchased "as is" without any assurance to its operation, completeness, or correctness of specifications.
How do I contact the seller?
Upon locating equipment of interest, click on the "Contact Seller" button.

Note: The site will prompt you to login if you are not already logged into the website. If you have an account, enter your email address and password and click on the "Login" button. If you do not have an account, click on the "register here first" to create a free account with XS-Machinery. You will be returned to the machinery webpage.

You will be presented with a list of standard questions you might want to ask the Seller, as well as an input box where you can type your specific request. When clicking the "Request Info" button, an email is automatically sent to the Seller identifying "who, where, and how to reach you"; at the same time, you receive an automatic email with the "who, where, and how to reach" the Seller.

Then, it's up to you and the Seller to contact each other, and hopefully strike up a deal!
Is financing available?
XS-Machinery does not offer financing, but we recommend you contact National Capital Leasing, our preferred Financing Source, and apply for leasing or financing options available through them.

Lease financing sources typically do not underwrite a lease purchase from an end-user of the equipment. They prefer to contract the purchase with an established equipment vendor. XS Machinery can provide the required "Equipment Vendor Service" to contract a lease purchase from an individual or previous user of the equipment.
How can I be assured the machinery will arrive in the advertised condition?
To accurately determine the equipment's condition, XS-Machinery recommends you have the equipment examined by a technician or knowledgeable person you trust.

We can assist through our fee-based Inspection Service. Depending on the machine's location, we contact a service technician or industry professional from our coast-to-coast network of experienced professionals. S/he will perform an on-site inspection of the equipment and prepare a written condition report documented by photos. The report is sent (emailed) to you and will assist you to make your purchase decision and negotiate a sales price.
Who takes care of the shipping?
The Buyer typically is responsible for freight charges and makes arrangements to ship the equipment from the Seller's location to his own. In case you don't have the time or experience to handle the logistic, XS-Machinery offers fee-based services for freight arrangements through established freight carriers, as well as obtain Freight Insurance to insure against damages that may result during the equipment's transit from the Seller's facility to yours.
Okay, I've negotiated a sales price with the Seller; how do I make payment to the Seller?
If the equipment is local to you, there's no problem because you can hand-carry the payment and possibly coordinate the shipping at the same time. If the equipment is hundreds of miles away, the payment and shipment process can become a bit more challenging in a "direct sales" transaction.

As an alternate method, XS-Machinery offers a fee-based SecurePay "escrow" system that protects both the Buyer and Seller, and ensures both money and machinery are secure during the entire sales transaction. The Seller will know he will get paid and the Buyer will have assurance to receive the equipment.

As part of SecurePay we offer payment service through (3) of the major credit cards; a 3% card payment fee is charged the Buyer; it will be added to the negotiated equipment sales price.
XS-Machinery will handle the credit card payment & clearance and will forward the actual payment by wire or check to the seller when the machine has arrived and the Buyer has accepted the equipment.
XS-Machinery will deduct a 3% service fee from the payment to the Seller for handling the transaction and acting as a credit card clearance facility.

FAQ's - Sellers

How much does it cost to list my equipment on XS-Machinery?
Listing equipment is free. All it requires is that you open and maintain a "no membership fee" account with us.
How much does it cost when I successfully sell equipment listed to an XS-Machinery Buyer?
You "Pick Your Fee"; we suggest anywhere from 2.5% to 15% of the collected sales price. We recommend you base your fee percentage on the service level received, turnaround time to sell, and final sales price received. You like the results and are satisfied - please, reward us with a small, but fair share!
When and how do I pay you?
When you receive your money, we ask you to notify XS-Machinery; if possible, forward us a copy of the invoice and remit your self-determined 2.5% to 15% of the collected sales price to us. You know what the sale is worth to you, and we trust you will pay us a fair fee in return.

We accept payment by check made payable to XS-Machinery, credit card (VISA, MasterCard, or American Express), and wire transfer.
How is selling equipment direct different from selling through an auction?
With XS-Machinery, Sellers communicate with prospects by email, fax, phone, or in person and without time limits. The Seller and Buyer work out their arrangements such as price negotiations, sales transactions, and cash & equipment transfer between each other.

When placing equipment in an auction, the sales process is transferred to the Auctioneer (or auction site) with a set start-and-end time frame for the sale. You may set an auction reserve (minimum auction) sales amount. Upon the close of the auction, the auction house collects the funds from the highest bidder and sends you the auction proceeds, less a standard …10% or 15% seller's auction fee.

The buyer typically arranges and pays to transport the equipment from its current location to the buyer's facility.
How is selling my equipment direct different from selling through a Broker or Dealer?
The most obvious difference is that you will be contacted directly by any possible interested party and will personally have the opportunity to sort out "window shoppers" from real prospects. Second, the commission or markup charged by the Broker or Dealer for their marketing and sales services is yours to keep and/or allows you to offer your equipment at a lower, more attractive price. The Dealer or Broker typically obtains his markup and/or the commission by deducting it from the proceeds sent to you.

A good Dealer or Broker assumes the responsibilities and tasks of the sales process from the time you decide to sell the equipment until you receive full payment for it. Depending on the company or individual, you may be freed from the marketing & sales tasks of: Correctly documenting the equipment including photographs, marketing the item until it is sold, communicating with all prospects, responding to all inquiries, negotiating the sales price, and collecting funds from buyer.

Some of the Dealers will provide additional services such as arranging rigging & loading, the shipping from your facility to the buyer's; securing insurance for shipment of goods; and/or coordinating installation and training at buyer's location.
What if my machine isn't selling?  What can I do?
You should reevaluate how you are marketing the equipment. A good place to start is its presentation. Ensure that all machine specifications are included and correctly described, provide images of "brushed off, cleaned up" equipment (full machine and then close-ups of the main working component(s), including wear-and-tear parts). - Remember what you did or would do to sell your car - wouldn't you "detail it" and take many good-looking photos!

Next, take a serious look at the offering price (have the equipment appraised by an industry professional to ensure pricing is within the correct fair market price range); the best presentations also have a short professionally looking video of the equipment producing product or performing its specified function.

Once the equipment is adequately documented, review and select special marketing options available from a web-based or other marketer such as advertisement placement, frequency of placement, and supportive marketing materials (print and digital media).

On a final note, you always have the option of reducing the sales price, turning the sales task over to professional equipment marketers, or placing the equipment in auction with low or no reserve; please check out EX-FACTORY Auction.com!
Can I raise or lower the price of my listing?
As the seller of equipment, you are in complete control of the price. You may raise or lower the price of your listing on your own any time you like. Please note, raising the price of equipment previously advertised may reduce your opportunities and prospects for a sale.
How long will it take for my listing to be active?
24 - 48 Hours, and it will be on the XS-Machinery website.
Can I email or mail XS-Machinery my listing to be put on the site?
XS-Machinery offers a premium "List Assist" service to place or update the listing on the XS Machinery site. - Click here for a complete description of this service. - For a small fee, we will take care of placing the complete description, making sure it reads right, and advise you as to the pricing and other points that can make a difference in selling the equipment quickly.
Okay, the buyer and I have agreed on a sales price; what's the best way to obtain payment?
If the Buyer is local to you, there's no problem because the Buyer can hand-carry the payment and possibly coordinate the shipping at the same time. If the Buyer is hundreds of miles away from your location, the payment can become a bit more challenging in a "direct sales" transaction. He can overnight you a company check, a certified check, or wire the money into your account. In case it's a company check, you might want to wait 5 - 6 days to make sure it has cleared the Buyer's Bank.

As an alternate method, XS-Machinery offers a fee-based SecurePay "escrow" system that protects both the Buyer and Seller, and ensures both money and machinery are secure during the entire sales transaction. The Buyer will have assurance to receive the equipment, and you, the Seller, will know you'll get paid.

As part of SecurePay we offer payment service through (3) of the major credit cards; a 3% service fee is charged to you, the Seller; it will be deducted from the negotiated equipment sales price.
XS-Machinery will handle the Buyer's credit card payment & clearance and will forward the actual payment by wire or check to you when the machine has arrived and the Buyer has accepted the equipment.
XS-Machinery will also add a 3% service fee to the negotiated sales price charging it to the Buyer for handling the Buyer's credit card purchase transaction and acting as a credit card clearance facility. It covers the processing cost XS-Machinery will incur.

Who is responsible for shipping the equipment to the Buyers location?
The Buyer typically is responsible for freight charges and makes arrangements to ship the purchased equipment from its (your) location to theirs. Since this is a "direct sales transaction" between you and the Buyer, it might be included in the sales negotiation process.
As a potential participant in the equipment shipment process, XS-Machinery offers fee-based services for freight arrangements through established freight carriers, and also can provide de-installation, rigging, loading & unloading, and freight insurance.
